I apologize for my absence from posting shopping deals as of late. I have cut back quite a bit when it comes to spending. Eliminating excess spending is just smart. As a family we would much rather spend money on experiences such as our recent Hawaiian vacation over buying material goods. We have quite enough "stuff" as it is. I have been working to streamline our household and get rid of the items that have become unnecessary. Maternity clothes that are like new, clothes that our son has outgrown (some of which are BRAND NEW), toys have been ignored, books that have been read, cds, dvds... you get the picture! When we cannot find homes for these items by giving them away to friends and family we will usually donate them only to buy new things to take their place. In the spirit of recycling and the old adage that "one man's trash is another man's treasure" we feel better about our methods of clearing clutter over just throwing things into the trash. I think that I've discovered my NEW (and soon to be favorite) way of combating clutter: Swapping!
Some time ago there was a Nightline segment on "Swappng" featuring the Swapaholics. I posted the video clip to share since it left me impressed and intrigued as I'm sure it will leave you! I have so many brand new items and like new designer brand items that just don't work for me anymore since having a baby. For example: sky high heels which are no longer practical and clutches/purses that are too small now for my life as mom. Not to mention clothes that just don't quite fit right and countless pairs of shoes that are a tiny bit too small now since my feet seemed to have grown a little after the pregnancy! I want 'IN' on a clothing swap! Watch the video and you'll see what I mean!
While I was on on the Swap.com website I made the decision that I will definitely be listing books that I want to swap. They have made it SO EASY to trade! You just enter a book title, name, or item ISBN/UPC code and whether you want it or have it. Easy!
If you simply want help out and aren't looking for a trade, you can participate in Swap4Schools which helps teachers fill needs in their schools. You can pick which schools will benefit from the items that you have. You can donate books, movies, athletic equipment, and school supplies. I will share this site with my friends who are teachers. Some of them obtain these much needed resources from money coming from their own pockets since funding isn't always there.
I am working on a search using Swap.com Local for Southern California to see if I can find an event like the featured segment! I'll gladly trade my designer duds with someone! So whether you want the convenience of online swapping, or the excitement of swapping live and in person on a local swap event - you are likely to find what you want by giving up something that you have and don't need! I was thinking that if I cannot find a local swap - I can attempt organizing one myself!
